Description
Halamid (chloramine T)
Halamid (chloramine T) has applications in agriculture (aquaculture, horticulture, aquaponics, hydroponics, horses, poultry, pigs, cattle, horses), the food and beverage industry, health care centres, public areas and cooling towers (Legionella prevention).
Halamid Aqua is currently FDA approved (NADA 141-423) to control mortality in all freshwater-reared salmonids due to bacterial gill disease, in walleye due to external columnaris disease, and in all freshwater-reared warm water finfish due to external columnaris disease.
Halamid Aqua has the added benefits of being non-corrosive to equipment (once diluted), easy to use, biodegradable, long term storage stability and no risk of possible disease resistance.
Halamid (chloramine T) is a fungicide, algaecide, antibacterial/germicide, and virucide, so it helps to both treat and prevent a host of issues both inside and outside of ponds. In aquariums, aquaculture, and ponds, chloramine-t is most often used to treat bacterial gill disease but is also utilized to treat gill and skin flukes, fungal infections, costia, chilodonella, trichodina, and is particularly effective against myxobacteria.
Halamid® has found wide application in flow-through raceways, stagnant ponds and closed circuit systems. Fish farmers have since long trusted Halamid® against parasitic diseases such as Amoebic Gill Disease (AGD), White spot and Costia as well as bacterial diseases such as Vibriosis, Columnaris and Bacterial Gill Disease (BGD).
As well as commercial applications, it is used by pigeon keepers, koi, goldfish and fish pond keepers and stamp collectors, as well as being used in some paint applications.
Bulk bags are 25kg, that we repack into plastic bags for use. Keep well sealed from the air and out of light.
Halamid® is an effective disinfectant against many bacteria related to food industry
Salmonella sp.
Campylobacter jejuni
Enterococcus hirae
Escherichia coli
Listeria monocytogenes
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Stapylococcus aureus
Streptococcus sp.
Halamid ® does not induce bacterial resistance (acquired resistance), contrary to many products commonly used in the food industry. You can safely use Halamid ® all year long without the need to rotate disinfectants.
Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli and many other bacteria are a major concern in the food processing and beverage industry. Halamid ® effectively and rapidly kills those microorganisms, making it the reliable disinfectant for this application.
APPLICATIONS
After preliminary cleaning, disinfect working tables, equipment and knifes with a 0,3 – 0,5% Halamid ® solution with a contact time of 5 min.
Halamid (chloramine T) dosage for fish is 10 to 20 mg/L for 60 minutes

DISINFECTION IN THE GREENHOUSES
EFFICACY
Halamid ® is effective against many bacteria, virus and fungi related to greenhouse applications. A few of them are indicated below, but the complete activity spectrum of Halamid ® is much wider.
Bacteria
Agrobacterium tumefaciens
Clavibacter michiganensis subsp michiganensis
Erwinia carotovora
Pseudomonas sp. (aeruginosa, fluorescens etc…)
Xanthomonas hyacinthi
Viruses
Pepino Mosaic Virus (PepMV)
This contagious and highly problematic virus affects tomato crops all over Europe. A 1% Halamid ® solution with a contact time of 30 min efficiently destroys PepMV. (PPO, Netherlands, 2003)
Fungi
Fusarium moniliforme
Geotrichum Candidum
Microorganisms are responsible for both qualitative and quantitative losses in the horticulture market. Pathogenic microorganisms are easily spread from plant to plant via contaminated tools and equipments, or from crop to crop if the greenhouse is initially infected.
To avoid spreading of bacteria and viruses due to infected tools and equipment, growers rely on Halamid ® for its wide activity spectrum and because it does not damage materials.
Tomato growers will appreciate the proven efficacy of Halamid ® against the Pepino Mosaic virus.
Application, Concentration & Remark
Equipment and greenhouse disinfection, 1%, 0.3L/m 2
Vehicle disinfection, 1%
Footbath, 2%, Renew as often as needed
Cattle and pig farming
In intensive farming, the high density of animals increases the risk of diseases. Buildings, equipment and lorries, when not properly cleaned and disinfected are responsible for transmission of pathogenic microorganisms.
The excellent efficacy of Halamid ® against problematic bacteria and viruses in cattle farming is confirmed by various laboratory tests and field trials.
Halamid ® covers all possible areas you need to disinfect in your farm – animal houses, equipment, vehicles and footbath. Farmers successfully apply it by spraying, nebulisation or (thermo)fogging. In the dairy industry, Halamid ® is used to disinfect cow teats as well as the milking equipment.
Application, Concentration & Remark
Surface and building disinfection by spraying, 0.5%-1%, 0.3 L/m 2
Surface and building disinfection by nebulization, 2%-3%, 40-50 ml/m 3
Vehicle disinfection, 1%

ION EXCHANGE RESIN
DISINFECTION
A combination of temperature and nutrients (organic compounds) is responsible for development of microorganisms in ion exchange resin beds. Regular disinfection of the resin avoids such microbial contamination that has a negative impact on process operations.
We recommend the following disinfection protocol* with Halamid®:
Backwash the resin with water to remove impurities, then drain the water.
Fill the column with a 250 ppm Halamid® solution and leave for 10 hours.
Drain the solution. Residual Halamid® should still be present in the solution. If not, repeat the ion exchange resin disinfection step.
Fill with water and backwash for 30 min.
Control rinsing efficacy by measuring the Halamid® residual level in rinse-water.
(*) this procedure is valid for cationic resin types.
HALAMID ® IN HEALTH CENTERS AND PUBLIC AREAS
EFFICACY

Bacteria
Bacillus subtilis
Enterobacteria
Escherichia coli
Legionella pneumophila
Mycobacteria
Proteus vulgaris
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Salmonella sp.
Staphylococcus aureus
MRSA
Viruses
Adeno virus
Coxsackie virus
Diphteria virus
Hepatitis B virus
Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
Human rota virus
Polio virus
Pox virus
Surfaces, equipment and air conditioning systems in public areas such as swimming pools, hospitals, medical centers, and residential care homes are potential risk carriers and require a regular disinfection
The use of Halamid ® is however not limited to general disinfection: it can also be used for disinfection of hands, helping to reduce skin contamination and prevent bacteria and viruses spreading. Halamid ® is also of interest in hydrotherapy where it reduces the bacterial load in water.
NO RISK OF RESISTANCE
In hospitals, disinfectants are widely used. Several studies have shown that some bacteria are able to develop resistance to some quaternary ammonium compounds, a phenomenon called acquired resistance.
This leads to selection of resistant bacterial strains, obviously a major concern for hygiene and safety.
Such a risk does not exist with Halamid ® . It reacts via an irreversible oxidizing mechanism, leaving no chance to the microorganisms for adaptation or resistance.
Halamid ® can therefore be used all year long without any risk.
Application, Concentration & Remark
Surface and building disinfection, 0.5%, 0.3 L/m 2
Hand disinfection, 1%
Hydrotherapy, 200 ppm
