Bead filter media

Description

Standard low density, food grade polyethylene (LLDPE) plastic beads are used in bead filter applications. The beads float on water and so are generally used in bubble bead filters (BBF).

The bead filter operates like an upside-down swimming pool sand filter. Instead of using sand, plastic beads are used. The plastic beads float at the top to form a packed bed of floating media.

Bead filters capture 100% of particles larger than 50 microns in the first passes, while 48% of particles in the 5-10 micron range will pass straight through. After the first pass finer solids are removed as the first solids captured reduces the filter pore sizes.
